Any camera decision will obviously take relative prices into account. The listed launch prices provide an indication of the market segment that the manufacturer of the cameras have been targeting. The G7X Mark III was launched at a lower price than the E-M5 II, despite having a lens built in. Unlike the G7X Mark III, the E-M5 II has the capacity to capture high quality composite images (40MP) by combining multiple shots after shifting its sensor by miniscule distances. This multi-shot, pixel-shift mode is most suitable for photography of stationary objects (landscapes, studio scenes).

The Canon PowerShot G7 X Mark III has a native sensitivity range from ISO 125 to ISO 12800, which can be extended to ISO 125-25600. The corresponding ISO settings for the Olympus OM-D E-M5 Mark II are ISO 200 to ISO 25600, with the possibility to increase the ISO range to 100-25600.

One difference between the cameras concerns the presence of an on-board flash. The G7X Mark III has one, while the E-M5 II does not. While the built-in flash of the G7X Mark III is not very powerful, it can at times be useful as a fill-in light.
