The price is, of course, an important factor in any camera decision. The listed launch prices provide an indication of the market segment that the manufacturer of the cameras have been targeting. The SX740 was launched at a lower price than the X2D 100C, despite having a lens built in. Usually, retail prices stay at first close to the launch price, but after several months, discounts become available. One difference between the cameras concerns the presence of an on-board flash. The SX740 has one, while the X2D 100C does not. While the built-in flash of the SX740 is not very powerful, it can at times be useful as a fill-in light.

The reported shutter speed information refers to the use of the mechanical shutter. Yet, some cameras only have an electronic shutter, while others have an electronic shutter in addition to a mechanical one.
