Fujifilm X70 versus Fujifilm X100F
The Fujifilm X70 and the Fujifilm X100F are two digital cameras that were officially introduced, respectively, in January 2016 and January 2017. Both the X70 and the X100F are fixed lens compact cameras that are equipped with an APS-C sensor. The X70 has a resolution of 16 megapixel, whereas the X100F provides 24 MP.

If the front view area (width x height) of the cameras is taken as an aggregate measure of their size, the Fujifilm X100F is notably larger (32 percent) than the Fujifilm X70. Moreover, the X100F is substantially heavier (38 percent) than the X70. In this context, it is worth noting that neither the X70 nor the X100F are weather-sealed.

The listed prices provide an indication of the market segment that the manufacturer of the cameras have been targeting. The X70 was launched at a markedly lower price (by 38 percent) than the X100F, which puts it into a different market segment. Usually, retail prices stay at first close to the launch price, but after several months, discounts become available. Later in the product cycle and, in particular, when the replacement model is about to appear, further discounting and stock clearance sales often push the camera price considerably down. Then, after the new model is out, very good deals can frequently be found on the pre-owned market.
The size of the sensor inside a digital camera is one of the key determinants of image quality. A large sensor will tend to have larger individual pixels that provide better low-light sensitivity, wider dynamic range, and richer color depth than smaller pixel-units in a sensor of the same technological generation. Further, a large sensor camera will give the photographer additional creative options when using shallow depth-of-field to isolate a subject from its background. On the downside, larger sensors tend to be more expensive and lead to bigger and heavier cameras and lenses.
Both cameras under consideration feature an APS-C sensor and have a format factor (sometimes also referred to as "crop factor") of 1.5. Within the spectrum of camera sensors, this places the review cameras among the medium-sized sensor cameras that aim to strike a balance between image quality and portability. Both cameras have a native aspect ratio (sensor width to sensor height) of 3:2.
While the two cameras under review share the same sensor size, the X100F offers a higher resolution of 24 megapixel, compared with 16 MP of the X70. This megapixel advantage translates into a 23 percent gain in linear resolution. On the other hand, these sensor specs imply that the X100F has a higher pixel density and a smaller size of the individual pixel (with a pixel pitch of 3.92μm versus 4.80μm for the X70). However, it should be noted that the X100F is a somewhat more recent model (by 1 year) than the X70, and its sensor might have benefitted from technological advances during this time that at least partly compensate for the smaller pixel size. Coming back to sensor resolution, it should be mentioned that neither of the two cameras has an anti-alias filter installed, so they are able to capture all the detail the sensor resolves.

Many modern cameras are not only capable of taking still images, but can also record movies. The two cameras under consideration both have sensors whose read-out speed is fast enough to capture moving pictures, and both provide the same movie specifications (1080/60p).
Beyond body and sensor, cameras can and do differ across a range of features. For example, the X100F has an electronic viewfinder (2360k dots), which can be very helpful when shooting in bright sunlight. In contrast, the X70 relies on live view and the rear LCD for framing. Both the X70 and the X100F have build-in prime lenses. The X70 has a 28mm f/2.8 optic and the X100F offers a 35mm f/2.0 (focal lengths in full frame equivalent terms). Hence, the X70 provides a wider angle of view than the X100F. The X100F offers the faster maximum aperture.

So what is the bottom line? Which of the two cameras – the Fujifilm X70 or the Fujifilm X100F – has the upper hand? The listing below highlights the relative strengths of the two models.
Reasons to prefer the Fujifilm X70:
