Fujifilm X-E2 vs X-Pro1
The Fujifilm X-E2 and the Fujifilm X-Pro1 are two digital cameras that were announced, respectively, in October 2013 and January 2012. Both the X-E2 and the X-Pro1 are mirrorless interchangeable lens cameras that are equipped with an APS-C sensor. Both cameras offer a resolution of 16 megapixels.

The X-E2 can be obtained in two different colors (black, silver), while the X-Pro1 is only available in black.
If the front view area (width x height) of the cameras is taken as an aggregate measure of their size, the Fujifilm X-Pro1 is notably larger (19 percent) than the Fujifilm X-E2. Moreover, the X-Pro1 is markedly heavier (29 percent) than the X-E2. In this context, it is worth noting that neither the X-E2 nor the X-Pro1 are weather-sealed.
The above size and weight comparisons are to some extent incomplete since they do not consider the interchangeable lenses that both of these cameras require. The price is, of course, an important factor in any camera decision. The retail prices at the time of the camera’s release place the model in the market relative to other models in the producer’s line-up and the competition. The X-E2 was launched at a markedly lower price (by 41 percent) than the X-Pro1, which puts it into a different market segment. Normally, street prices remain initially close to the MSRP, but after a couple of months, the first discounts appear. Later in the product cycle and, in particular, when the replacement model is about to appear, further discounting and stock clearance sales often push the camera price considerably down.
The size of the sensor inside a digital camera is one of the key determinants of image quality. A large sensor will generally have larger individual pixels that offer better low-light sensitivity, provide wider dynamic range, and have richer color-depth than smaller pixels in a sensor of the same technological generation. Further, a large sensor camera will give the photographer additional creative options when using shallow depth-of-field to isolate a subject from its background. On the downside, larger sensors are more costly to manufacture and tend to lead to bigger and heavier cameras and lenses.
Both cameras under consideration feature an APS-C sensor and have a format factor (sometimes also referred to as "crop factor") of 1.5. Within the spectrum of camera sensors, this places the review cameras among the medium-sized sensor cameras that aim to strike a balance between image quality and portability. Both cameras have a native aspect ratio (sensor width to sensor height) of 3:2.
In terms of chip-set technology, the X-E2 uses a more advanced image processing engine (EXR Processor II) than the X-Pro1 (EXR Processor), with benefits for noise reduction, color accuracy, and processing speed.
The two cameras under review do not only share the same sensor size, but also offer an identical resolution of 16 megapixels. This similarity in sensor specs implies that both the X-E2 and the X-Pro1 have the same pixel density, as well as the same pixel size. It should, however, be noted that the X-E2 is a somewhat more recent model (by 1 year and 9 months) than the X-Pro1, and its sensor might have benefitted from technological advances during this time. Coming back to sensor resolution, it should be mentioned that neither of the two cameras has an anti-alias filter installed, so they are able to capture all the detail the sensor resolves.
The X-E2 has on-sensor phase detect pixels, which results in fast and reliable autofocus acquisition even during live view operation.
The Fujifilm X-E2 has a native sensitivity range from ISO 200 to ISO 6400, which can be extended to ISO 100-51200. The corresponding ISO settings for the Fujifilm X-Pro1 are ISO 200 to ISO 6400, with the possibility to increase the ISO range to 100-25600.

Many modern cameras are not only capable of taking still images, but also of capturing video footage. The two cameras under consideration both have sensors whose read-out speed is fast enough to capture moving pictures, but the X-E2 provides a higher frame rate than the X-Pro1. It can shoot video footage at 1080/60p, while the X-Pro1 is limited to 1080/24p.

One difference between the cameras concerns the presence of an on-board flash. The X-E2 has one, while the X-Pro1 does not. While the built-in flash of the X-E2 is not very powerful, it can at times be useful as a fill-in light.
The Fujifilm X-E2 has an intervalometer built-in. This enables the photographer to capture time lapse sequences, such as flower blooming, a sunset or moon rise, without purchasing an external camera trigger and related software.
Concerning the storage of imaging data, both the X-E2 and the X-Pro1 write their files to SDXC cards. Both cameras can use UHS-I cards, which provide for Ultra High Speed data transfer of up to 104 MB/s.

It is notable that the X-E2 has a microphone port, which is missing on the X-Pro1. Such an external microphone input can help to substantially improve the quality of audio recordings when a good external microphone is used.
Studio photographers will appreciate that the Fujifilm X-Pro1 (unlike the X-E2) features a PC Sync socket, so that professional strobe lights can be controlled by the camera.
Both the X-E2 and the X-Pro1 have been discontinued, but can regularly be found used on eBay. The X-Pro1 was replaced by the Fujifilm X-Pro2, while the X-E2 was followed by the Fujifilm X-E2S.
