Canon G1 X Mark II versus Canon T6s
The Canon PowerShot G1 X Mark II and the Canon EOS Rebel T6s (labelled Canon 760D in some countries) are two digital cameras that were announced, respectively, in February 2014 and February 2015. The G1X Mark II is a fixed lens compact, while the T6s is a DSLR. The cameras are based on an 1.5-inch (G1X Mark II) and an APS-C (T6s) sensor. The G1X Mark II has a resolution of 13 megapixel, whereas the T6s provides 24 MP. If the front view area (width x height) of the cameras is taken as an aggregate measure of their size, the Canon T6s is considerably larger (55 percent) than the Canon G1 X Mark II. In this context, it is worth noting that neither the G1X Mark II nor the T6s are weather-sealed.
The above size and weight comparisons are to some extent incomplete and possibly misleading, as the G1X Mark II has a lens build in, whereas the T6s is an interchangeable lens camera that requires a separate lens. The price is, of course, an important factor in any camera decision. The listed launch prices provide an indication of the market segment that the manufacturer of the cameras have been targeting. The G1X Mark II was launched at a lower price than the T6s, despite having a lens build in. Usually, retail prices stay at first close to the launch price, but after several months, discounts become available. Later in the product cycle and, in particular, when the replacement model is about to appear, further discounting and stock clearance sales often push the camera price considerably down. Then, after the new model is out, very good deals can frequently be found on the pre-owned market.
Sensor comparison: Canon G1 X Mark II vs Canon T6s
The imaging sensor is at the core of digital cameras and its size is one of the main determining factors of image quality. A large sensor will generally have larger individual pixels that offer better low-light sensitivity, provide wider dynamic range, and have richer color depth than smaller pixels in a sensor of the same technological generation. Further, a large sensor camera will give the photographer additional creative options when using shallow depth-of-field to isolate a subject from its background. On the downside, larger sensors tend to be associated with larger, more expensive camera bodies and lenses.
Of the two cameras under consideration, the Canon G1 X Mark II features an 1.5-inch sensor and the Canon T6s an APS-C sensor. The sensor area in the T6s is 27 percent bigger. As a result of these sensor size differences, the cameras have a format factor of, respectively, 1.85 and 1.6. The sensor in the G1X Mark II has a native 4:3 aspect ratio, while the one in the T6s offers a 3:2 aspect.
With 24MP, the T6s offers a higher resolution than the G1X Mark II (13MP), but the T6s has smaller individual pixels (pixel pitch of 3.72μm versus 4.49μm for the G1X Mark II). Yet, the T6s is a somewhat more recent model (by 11 months) than the G1X Mark II, and its sensor might have benefitted from technological advances during this time that enhance the light gathering capacity of its pixel-units.
For most cameras, data on sensor performance has been reported by DXO Mark. This service determines an overall sensor rating, as well as sub-scores for low-light sensitivity ("DXO Sports"), dynamic range ("DXO Landscape"), and color depth ("DXO Portrait"). Of the two cameras under consideration, the T6s offers substantially better image quality than the G1X Mark II (overall score 12 points higher). The advantage is based on 1.1 bits higher color depth, 1.2 EV in additional dynamic range, and 0.7 stops in additional low light sensitivity. Many modern cameras cannot only take still pictures, but also record videos. Both cameras under consideration are equipped with sensors that have a sufficiently high read-out speed for moving images, and both provide the same movie specifications (1080/30p).
Feature comparison: Canon G1 X Mark II vs Canon T6s
Beyond body and sensor, cameras can and do differ across a range of features. For example, the T6s has an optical viewfinder, which can be very useful when shooting in bright sunlight. The G1X Mark II is a current model that online retailers, such as amazon, will have in stock. In contrast, the T6s has been discontinued (but it can be found pre-owned on eBay). As a replacement in the same line of cameras, the T6s was succeeded by the Canon 77D.

So what conclusions can be drawn? Is the Canon G1 X Mark II better than the Canon T6s or vice versa? A synthesis of the relative strong points of each of the models is listed below.
Advantages of the Canon PowerShot G1 X Mark II:

However, the relative importance of the various individual camera aspects will vary according to personal preferences and needs, so that you might like to apply corresponding weights to the particular features before making a decision on a new camera.

Thus, a score needs to be put into the context of the launch date and the launch price of the camera, and comparing ratings of very distinct cameras or ones that are far apart in terms of their release date have little meaning.
