Canon T6i vs Olympus E-600
The Canon EOS Rebel T6i (called Canon 750D in some regions) and the Olympus E-600 are two digital cameras that were announced, respectively, in February 2015 and August 2009. Both are DSLR (Digital Single Lens Reflex) cameras that are based on an APS-C (T6i) and a Four Thirds (E-600) sensor. The Canon has a resolution of 24 megapixels, whereas the Olympus provides 12.2 MP.

If the front view area (width x height) of the cameras is taken as an aggregate measure of their size, the Olympus E-600 is notably smaller (8 percent) than the Canon T6i. Moreover, the E-600 is slightly lighter (4 percent) than the T6i. In this context, it is worth noting that neither the T6i nor the E-600 are weather-sealed.

The price is, of course, an important factor in any camera decision. The retail prices at the time of the camera’s release place the model in the market relative to other models in the producer’s line-up and the competition. The E-600 was launched at a markedly lower price (by 40 percent) than the T6i, which puts it into a different market segment. Usually, retail prices stay at first close to the launch price, but after several months, discounts become available. Later in the product cycle and, in particular, when the replacement model is about to appear, further discounting and stock clearance sales often push the camera price considerably down.
The size of the imaging sensor is a crucial determinant of image quality. A large sensor will tend to have larger individual pixels that provide better low-light sensitivity, wider dynamic range, and richer color-depth than smaller pixel-units in a sensor of the same technological generation. Further, a large sensor camera will give the photographer additional creative options when using shallow depth-of-field to isolate a subject from its background. On the downside, larger sensors are more costly to manufacture and tend to lead to bigger and heavier cameras and lenses.
Of the two cameras under consideration, the Canon T6i features an APS-C sensor and the Olympus E-600 a Four Thirds sensor. The sensor area in the E-600 is 32 percent smaller. As a result of these sensor size differences, the cameras have a format factor of, respectively, 1.6 and 2.0. The sensor in the T6i has a native 3:2 aspect ratio, while the one in the E-600 offers a 4:3 aspect.
With 24MP, the T6i offers a higher resolution than the E-600 (12.2MP), but the T6i has smaller individual pixels (pixel pitch of 3.72μm versus 4.29μm for the E-600). However, the T6i is a much more recent model (by 5 years and 5 months) than the E-600, and its sensor will have benefitted from technological advances during this time that enhance the light gathering capacity of its pixels.
The resolution advantage of the Canon T6i implies greater flexibility for cropping images or the possibility to print larger pictures. The maximum print size of the T6i for good quality output (200 dots per inch) amounts to 30 x 20 inches or 76.2 x 50.8 cm, for very good quality (250 dpi) 24 x 16 inches or 61 x 40.6 cm, and for excellent quality (300 dpi) 20 x 13.3 inches or 50.8 x 33.9 cm. The corresponding values for the Olympus E-600 are 20.2 x 15.1 inches or 51.2 x 38.4 cm for good quality, 16.1 x 12.1 inches or 41 x 30.7 cm for very good quality, and 13.4 x 10.1 inches or 34.1 x 25.6 cm for excellent quality prints.
The T6i has on-sensor phase detect pixels, which results in fast and reliable autofocus acquisition even during live view operation.
The Canon EOS Rebel T6i has a native sensitivity range from ISO 100 to ISO 12800, which can be extended to ISO 100-25600. The corresponding ISO settings for the Olympus E-600 are ISO 100 to ISO 3200 (no boost).
Since 2007, DXO Mark has published sensor performance measurements that have been derived using a consistent methodology. This service determines an overall sensor rating, as well as sub-scores for low-light sensitivity ("DXO Sports"), dynamic range ("DXO Landscape"), and color depth ("DXO Portrait"). Of the two cameras under review, the T6i provides substantially higher image quality than the E-600, with an overall score that is 16 points higher. This advantage is based on 1.2 bits higher color depth, 1.7 EV in additional dynamic range, and 0.8 stops in additional low light sensitivity. Many modern cameras are not only capable of taking still images, but also of capturing video footage. The T6i indeed provides movie recording capabilities, while the E-600 does not. The highest resolution format that the T6i can use is 1080/30p.
Apart from body and sensor, cameras can and do differ across a range of features. The T6i and the E-600 are similar in the sense that both have an optical viewfinder. The latter is useful for getting a clear image for framing even in brightly lit environments. The viewfinders of both cameras offer the same field of view (95%), but the viewfinder of the T6i has a higher magnification than the one of the E-600 (0.51x vs 0.48x), so that the size of the image transmitted appears closer to the size seen with the naked human eye. One differentiating feature between the two cameras concerns the touch sensitivity of the rear screen. The T6i has a touchscreen, while the E-600 has a conventional panel. Touch control can be particularly helpful, for example, for setting the focus point.Both cameras have an articulated rear screen that can be turned to be front-facing. The T6i writes its imaging data to SDXC cards, while the E-600 uses Compact Flash or xD Picture cards. The E-600 features dual card slots, which can be very useful in case a memory card fails. In contrast, the T6i only has one slot.

It is notable that the T6i offers wifi support, while the E-600 does not. Wifi can be a very convenient means to transfer image data to an off-camera location.
Both the T6i and the E-600 have been discontinued, but can regularly be found used on eBay. The T6i was replaced by the Canon T7i, while the E-600 does not have a direct successor.
