Canon G9 X Mark II versus Panasonic LX100
The Canon PowerShot G9 X Mark II and the Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX100 are two digital cameras that were revealed to the public, respectively, in January 2017 and September 2014. Both the G9X Mark II and the LX100 are fixed lens compact cameras that are based on an one-inch (G9X Mark II) and a Four Thirds sensor. The Canon has a resolution of 20 megapixel, whereas the Panasonic provides 12.7 MP.

The listed prices provide an indication of the market segment that the manufacturer of the cameras have been targeting. The G9X Mark II was launched at a markedly lower price (by 41 percent) than the LX100, which puts it into a different market segment. As a result of these sensor size differences, the cameras have a format factor of, respectively, 2.7 and 2.0. The sensor in the G9X Mark II has a native 3:2 aspect ratio, while the one in the LX100 offers a 4:3 aspect.
Despite having a smaller sensor, the Canon G9 X Mark II offers a higher resolution of 20 megapixel, compared with 12.7 MP of the Panasonic LX100. This megapixel advantage comes at the cost of a higher pixel density and a smaller size of the individual pixel (with a pixel pitch of 2.41μm versus 4.21μm for the LX100). However, it should be noted that the G9X Mark II is much more recent (by 2 years and 3 months) than the LX100, and its sensor will have benefitted from technological advances during this time that make it possible to gather light more efficiently.

Many modern cameras cannot only take still pictures, but also record videos. Both cameras under consideration are equipped with sensors that have a sufficiently high read-out speed for moving images, but the LX100 provides a better video resolution than the G9X Mark II. It can shoot movie footage at 4K/30p, while the Canon is limited to 1080/60p.

Both the G9X Mark II and the LX100 have zoom lenses build in. The G9X Mark II has a 28-84mm f/2.0-4.9 optic and the LX100 offers a 24-75mm f/1.7-2.8 (focal lengths in full frame equivalent terms).
