Canon 1000D versus Canon 760D
The Canon EOS 1000D (called Canon XS in some regions) and the Canon EOS 760D (labelled Canon T6s in some countries) are two digital cameras that were revealed to the public, respectively, in June 2008 and February 2015. Both are DSLR (Digital Single Lens Reflex) cameras that are equipped with an APS-C sensor. The 1000D has a resolution of 10.1 megapixel, whereas the 760D provides 24 MP. Body comparison: Canon 1000D vs Canon 760D

If the front view area (width x height) of the cameras is taken as an aggregate measure of their size, the Canon 760D is notably larger (8 percent) than the Canon 1000D. Moreover, the 760D is markedly heavier (13 percent) than the 1000D. In this context, it is worth noting that neither the 1000D nor the 760D are weather-sealed.
The above size and weight comparisons are to some extent incomplete since they do not consider the interchangeable lenses that both of these cameras require. The price is, of course, an important factor in any camera decision. The listed launch prices provide an indication of the market segment that the manufacturer of the cameras have been targeting. The 1000D was launched at a markedly lower price (by 47 percent) than the 760D, which puts it into a different market segment. Usually, retail prices stay at first close to the launch price, but after several months, discounts become available. Later in the product cycle and, in particular, when the replacement model is about to appear, further discounting and stock clearance sales often push the camera price considerably down. Then, after the new model is out, very good deals can frequently be found on the pre-owned market.
Sensor comparison: Canon 1000D vs Canon 760D
The size of the imaging sensor is a crucial determinant of image quality. All other things equal, a large sensor will have larger individual pixel-units that offer better low-light sensitivity, wider dynamic range, and richer color depth than smaller pixels in a sensor of the same technological generation. Moreover, a large sensor camera will give the photographer more control over depth-of-field in the image and, thus, the ability to better isolate a subject from the background. On the downside, larger sensors tend to be more expensive and lead to bigger and heavier cameras and lenses.
Both cameras under consideration feature an APS-C sensor, but their sensors differ slightly in size. The sensor area in the 760D is 1 percent bigger. They nevertheless have the same format factor of 1.6. Both cameras have a native aspect ratio (sensor width to sensor height) of 3:2.
With 24MP, the 760D offers a higher resolution than the 1000D (10.1MP), but the 760D has smaller individual pixels (pixel pitch of 3.72μm versus 5.71μm for the 1000D). Yet, the 760D is a much more recent model (by 6 years and 7 months) than the 1000D, and its sensor will have benefitted from technological advances during this time that enhance the light gathering capacity of its pixel-units.

Many modern cameras cannot only take still pictures, but also record videos. The 760D indeed provides for movie recording, while the 1000D does not. The highest resolution format that the 760D can use is 1080/30p.

Apart from body and sensor, cameras can and do differ across a range of features. The 1000D and the 760D are similar in the sense that both have an optical viewfinder. The latter is useful for getting a clear image for framing even in brightly lit environments. Both the 1000D and the 760D have been discontinued, but can regularly be found used on eBay. The 1000D was replaced by the Canon 1100D, while the 760D was followed by the Canon 77D.
Review summary: Canon 1000D vs Canon 760D
So how do things add up? Which of the two cameras – the Canon 1000D or the Canon 760D – has the upper hand? Below is a summary of the relative strengths of each of the two contestants.
Arguments in favor of the Canon EOS 1000D:
- Less heavy: Is lighter (by 63g or 11 percent) and hence easier to carry around.
- Longer lasting: Can take more shots (500 versus 440) on a single battery charge.
- More affordable: Was introduced into a lower priced category (47 percent cheaper at launch).
- More heavily discounted: Has been available for much longer (launched in June 2008).
Advantages of the Canon EOS 760D:

- Larger screen: Has a bigger rear LCD (3.0" vs 2.5") for image review and settings control.

- More flexible LCD: Has swivel screen for odd-angle shots in portrait or landscape orientation.
- Fewer buttons to press: Has a touchscreen to facilitate handling and shooting adjustments.

- More modern: Reflects 6 years and 7 months of technical progress since the 1000D launch.
If the number of relative strengths (bullet points above) is taken as a guide, the 760D is the clear winner of the contest (9 : 4 points). However, the pertinence of the various camera strengths will differ across photographers, so that you might want to weigh individual camera traits according to their importance for your own imaging needs before making a camera decision.
In any case, while the comparison of technical specifications can provide a useful overview of the capabilities of different cameras, it says nothing about, for example, the handling, responsiveness, and overall imaging quality of the 1000D and the 760D in practical situations. At times, user reviews, such as those published at amazon, address these issues in a useful manner, but such feedback is on many occasions incomplete, inconsistent, and unreliable. The above review scores should be interpreted with care, though. The assessments were made in relation to similar cameras of the same technological generation. A score, therefore, has to be seen in close connection to the price and market introduction time of the camera, and comparing ratings of very distinct cameras or ones that are far apart in terms of their release date have little meaning.
