Fujifilm X100T vs Nikon Df
The Fujifilm X100T and the Nikon Df are two enthusiast cameras that were revealed to the public, respectively, in September 2014 and November 2013. The X100T is a fixed lens compact, while the Df is a DSLR. The cameras are based on an APS-C (X100T) and a full frame (Df) sensor. The Fujifilm has a resolution of 16 megapixels, whereas the Nikon provides 16.2 MP.

If the front view area (width x height) of the cameras is taken as an aggregate measure of their size, the Nikon Df is considerably larger (69 percent) than the Fujifilm X100T. It is noteworthy in this context that the Df is splash and dust-proof, while the X100T does not feature any corresponding weather-sealing.

Any camera decision will obviously take relative prices into account. The listed launch prices provide an indication of the market segment that the manufacturer of the cameras have been targeting. The X100T was launched at a lower price than the Df, despite having a lens built in. Normally, street prices remain initially close to the MSRP, but after a couple of months, the first discounts appear. Later in the product cycle and, in particular, when the replacement model is about to appear, further discounting and stock clearance sales often push the camera price considerably down.
The size of the sensor inside a digital camera is one of the key determinants of image quality. A large sensor will generally have larger individual pixels that offer better low-light sensitivity, provide wider dynamic range, and have richer color-depth than smaller pixels in a sensor of the same technological generation. Further, a large sensor camera will give the photographer additional creative options when using shallow depth-of-field to isolate a subject from its background. On the downside, larger sensors are more costly to manufacture and tend to lead to bigger and heavier cameras and lenses.
Of the two cameras under consideration, the Fujifilm X100T features an APS-C sensor and the Nikon Df a full frame sensor. The sensor area in the Df is 134 percent bigger. As a result of these sensor size differences, the cameras have a format factor of, respectively, 1.5 and 1.0. Both cameras have a native aspect ratio (sensor width to sensor height) of 3:2.
Technology-wise, both cameras are equipped with CMOS (Complementary Metal–Oxide–Semiconductor) sensors.
With 16.2MP, the Df offers a higher resolution than the X100T (16MP), but the Df nevertheless has larger individual pixels (pixel pitch of 7.29μm versus 4.80μm for the X100T) due to its larger sensor. However, the X100T is a somewhat more recent model (by 10 months) than the Df, and its sensor might have benefitted from technological advances during this time that enhance the light gathering capacity of its pixel-units. Coming back to sensor resolution, it should be mentioned that the X100T has no anti-alias filter installed, so that it can capture all the detail its sensor resolves.
The X100T has on-sensor phase detect pixels, which results in fast and reliable autofocus acquisition even during live view operation.
The Fujifilm X100T has a native sensitivity range from ISO 200 to ISO 6400, which can be extended to ISO 100-51200. The corresponding ISO settings for the Nikon Df are ISO 100 to ISO 12800, with the possibility to increase the ISO range to 50-204800.

Many modern cameras cannot only take still pictures, but also record videos. The X100T indeed provides movie recording capabilities, while the Df does not. The highest resolution format that the X100T can use is 1080/60p.
Apart from body and sensor, cameras can and do differ across a range of features. For example, the X100T has an electronic viewfinder (2360k dots), while the Df has an optical one. Both systems have their advantages, with the electronic viewfinder making it possible to project supplementary shooting information into the framing view, whereas the optical viewfinder offers lag-free viewing and a very clear framing image. One difference between the cameras concerns the presence of an on-board flash. The X100T has one, while the Df does not. While the built-in flash of the X100T is not very powerful, it can at times be useful as a fill-in light.
The Fujifilm X100T and the Nikon Df both have an intervalometer built-in. This enables the photographer to capture time lapse sequences, such as flower blooming, a sunset or moon rise, without purchasing an external camera trigger and related software.

It is notable that the X100T offers wifi support, while the Df does not. Wifi can be a very convenient means to transfer image data to an off-camera location.
Studio photographers will appreciate that the Nikon Df (unlike the X100T) features a PC Sync socket, so that professional strobe lights can be controlled by the camera.
Both the X100T and the Df have been discontinued, but can regularly be found used on eBay. The X100T was replaced by the Fujifilm X100F, while the Df does not have a direct successor.
