Fujifilm X100T vs X30
The Fujifilm X100T and the Fujifilm X30 are two digital cameras that were revealed to the public, respectively, in September 2014 and August 2014. Both the X100T and the X30 are fixed lens compact cameras that are based on an APS-C (X100T) and a 2/3 (X30) sensor. The X100T has a resolution of 16 megapixels, whereas the X30 provides 12 MP.

If the front view area (width x height) of the cameras is taken as an aggregate measure of their size, the Fujifilm X30 is notably smaller (9 percent) than the Fujifilm X100T. The price is, of course, an important factor in any camera decision. The manufacturer’s suggested retail prices give an idea on the placement of the camera in the maker’s lineup and the broader market. The X30 was launched at a markedly lower price (by 54 percent) than the X100T, which puts it into a different market segment. Normally, street prices remain initially close to the MSRP, but after a couple of months, the first discounts appear. Later in the product cycle and, in particular, when the replacement model is about to appear, further discounting and stock clearance sales often push the camera price considerably down.
The size of the imaging sensor is a crucial determinant of image quality. A large sensor will tend to have larger individual pixels that provide better low-light sensitivity, wider dynamic range, and richer color-depth than smaller pixel-units in a sensor of the same technological generation. Further, a large sensor camera will give the photographer additional creative options when using shallow depth-of-field to isolate a subject from its background. On the downside, larger sensors tend to be more expensive and lead to bigger and heavier cameras and lenses.
Of the two cameras under consideration, the Fujifilm X100T features an APS-C sensor and the Fujifilm X30 a 2/3 sensor. The sensor area in the X30 is 84 percent smaller. As a result of these sensor size differences, the cameras have a format factor of, respectively, 1.5 and 3.9. The sensor in the X100T has a native 3:2 aspect ratio, while the one in the X30 offers a 4:3 aspect.
With 16MP, the X100T offers a higher resolution than the X30 (12MP), but the X100T nevertheless has larger individual pixels (pixel pitch of 4.80μm versus 2.20μm for the X30) due to its larger sensor. It is noteworthy in this context that the two cameras were released in close succession, so that their sensors are from the same technological generation. Coming back to sensor resolution, it should be mentioned that neither of the two cameras has an anti-alias filter installed, so they are able to capture all the detail the sensor resolves.
The resolution advantage of the Fujifilm X100T implies greater flexibility for cropping images or the possibility to print larger pictures. The maximum print size of the X100T for good quality output (200 dots per inch) amounts to 24.5 x 16.3 inches or 62.2 x 41.5 cm, for very good quality (250 dpi) 19.6 x 13.1 inches or 49.7 x 33.2 cm, and for excellent quality (300 dpi) 16.3 x 10.9 inches or 41.5 x 27.6 cm. The corresponding values for the Fujifilm X30 are 20 x 15 inches or 50.8 x 38.1 cm for good quality, 16 x 12 inches or 40.6 x 30.5 cm for very good quality, and 13.3 x 10 inches or 33.9 x 25.4 cm for excellent quality prints.
The Fujifilm X100T has a native sensitivity range from ISO 200 to ISO 6400, which can be extended to ISO 100-51200. The corresponding ISO settings for the Fujifilm X30 are ISO 100 to ISO 12800 (no boost).

The Fujifilm X100T has an intervalometer built-in. This enables the photographer to capture time lapse sequences, such as flower blooming, a sunset or moon rise, without purchasing an external camera trigger and related software.
The X30 is equipped with a zoom lens, while the X100T comes with a built-in prime. The X30 has a 28-112mm f/2.0-2.8 optic and the X100T offers a 35mm f/2.0 (focal lengths in full frame equivalent terms). Hence, the X30 provides a wider angle of view at the short end, as well as more tele-photo reach at the long end than the X100T. Both cameras offer the same maximum aperture.
Concerning the storage of imaging data, both the X100T and the X30 write their files to SDXC cards. Both cameras can use UHS-I cards, which provide for Ultra High Speed data transfer of up to 104 MB/s.

It is notable that the X100T has a microphone port, which is missing on the X30. Such an external microphone input can help to substantially improve the quality of audio recordings when a good external microphone is used.
The X30 is a recent model that features in the current product line-up of Fujifilm. In contrast, the X100T has been discontinued (but can be found pre-owned on eBay).
