Canon SX410 vs T5
The Canon PowerShot SX410 IS and the Canon EOS Rebel T5 (labelled Canon 1200D in some countries) are two digital cameras that were revealed to the public, respectively, in February 2015 and February 2014. The SX410 is a fixed lens compact, while the T5 is a DSLR. The cameras are based on a 1/2.3-inch (SX410) and an APS-C (T5) sensor. The SX410 has a resolution of 19.9 megapixels, whereas the T5 provides 17.9 MP.

The SX410 can be obtained in two different colors (black, red), while the T5 is only available in black.
If the front view area (width x height) of the cameras is taken as an aggregate measure of their size, the Canon T5 is considerably larger (81 percent) than the Canon SX410. In this context, it is worth noting that neither the SX410 nor the T5 are weather-sealed.
The above size and weight comparisons are to some extent incomplete and possibly misleading, as the SX410 has a lens built in, whereas the T5 is an interchangeable lens camera that requires a separate lens. Any camera decision will obviously take relative prices into account. The retail prices at the time of the camera’s release place the model in the market relative to other models in the producer’s line-up and the competition. The SX410 was launched at a lower price than the T5, despite having a lens built in. Usually, retail prices stay at first close to the launch price, but after several months, discounts become available. Later in the product cycle and, in particular, when the replacement model is about to appear, further discounting and stock clearance sales often push the camera price considerably down. Then, after the new model is out, very good deals can frequently be found on the pre-owned market.
The size of the sensor inside a digital camera is one of the key determinants of image quality. A large sensor will tend to have larger individual pixels that provide better low-light sensitivity, wider dynamic range, and richer color-depth than smaller pixel-units in a sensor of the same technological generation. Further, a large sensor camera will give the photographer additional creative options when using shallow depth-of-field to isolate a subject from its background. On the downside, larger sensors tend to be more expensive and lead to bigger and heavier cameras and lenses.
Of the two cameras under consideration, the Canon SX410 features a 1/2.3-inch sensor and the Canon T5 an APS-C sensor. The sensor area in the T5 is 1086 percent bigger. As a result of these sensor size differences, the cameras have a format factor of, respectively, 5.6 and 1.6. The sensor in the SX410 has a native 4:3 aspect ratio, while the one in the T5 offers a 3:2 aspect.
In terms of chip-set technology, the SX410 uses a more advanced image processing engine (DIGIC 4+) than the T5 (DIGIC 4), with benefits for noise reduction, color accuracy, and processing speed.
Despite having a smaller sensor, the Canon SX410 offers a higher resolution of 19.9 megapixels, compared with 17.9 MP of the Canon T5. This megapixels advantage comes at the cost of a higher pixel density and a smaller size of the individual pixel (with a pixel pitch of 1.19μm versus 4.31μm for the T5). However, it should be noted that the SX410 is a somewhat more recent model (by 11 months) than the T5, and its sensor might have benefitted from technological advances during this time that partly offset its pixel-size disadvantage. Coming back to sensor resolution, it should be mentioned that the SX410 has no anti-alias filter installed, so that it can capture all the detail its sensor resolves.
The Canon PowerShot SX410 IS has a native sensitivity range from ISO 100 to ISO 1600. The corresponding ISO settings for the Canon EOS Rebel T5 are ISO 100 to ISO 6400, with the possibility to increase the ISO range to 100-12800.

Many modern cameras are not only capable of taking still images, but can also record movies. The two cameras under consideration both have sensors whose read-out speed is fast enough to capture moving pictures, but the T5 provides a better video resolution than the SX410. It can shoot movie footage at 1080/30p, while the SX410 is limited to 720/30p.

It is notable that the T5 has a hotshoe, which makes it possible to easily attach optional accessories, such as an external flash gun. The SX410 does not feature such an accessory-socket.
Both the SX410 and the T5 have been discontinued, but can regularly be found used on eBay. The T5 was replaced by the Canon T6, while the SX410 was followed by the Canon SX420. Reasons to prefer the Canon PowerShot SX410 IS:
