Canon 1300D vs Nikon D3X
The Canon EOS 1300D (called Canon T6 in some regions) and the Nikon D3X are two digital cameras that were officially introduced, respectively, in March 2016 and December 2008. Both are DSLR (Digital Single Lens Reflex) cameras that are based on an APS-C (1300D) and a full frame (D3X) sensor. The Canon has a resolution of 17.9 megapixels, whereas the Nikon provides 24.4 MP. If the front view area (width x height) of the cameras is taken as an aggregate measure of their size, the Nikon D3X is considerably larger (93 percent) than the Canon 1300D. Moreover, the D3X is substantially heavier (160 percent) than the 1300D. It is noteworthy in this context that the D3X is splash and dust-proof, while the 1300D does not feature any corresponding weather-sealing.
The above size and weight comparisons are to some extent incomplete since they do not consider the interchangeable lenses that both of these cameras require. Concerning battery life, the 1300D gets 500 shots out of its LP-E10 battery, while the D3X can take 4400 images on a single charge of its EN-EL4a power pack. As can be seen in the images above, the D3X has a battery grip built in. This facilitates image-taking in portrait orientation and gives it additional battery power. The price is, of course, an important factor in any camera decision. The manufacturer’s suggested retail prices give an idea on the placement of the camera in the maker’s lineup and the broader market. The 1300D was launched at a markedly lower price (by 94 percent) than the D3X, which puts it into a different market segment. Usually, retail prices stay at first close to the launch price, but after several months, discounts become available. Later in the product cycle and, in particular, when the replacement model is about to appear, further discounting and stock clearance sales often push the camera price considerably down. Then, after the new model is out, very good deals can frequently be found on the pre-owned market.
Sensor comparison: Canon 1300D vs Nikon D3X
The size of the imaging sensor is a crucial determinant of image quality. A large sensor will tend to have larger individual pixels that provide better low-light sensitivity, wider dynamic range, and richer color-depth than smaller pixel-units in a sensor of the same technological generation. Moreover, a large sensor camera will give the photographer more control over depth-of-field in the image and, thus, the ability to better isolate a subject from the background. On the downside, larger sensors are more costly to manufacture and tend to lead to bigger and heavier cameras and lenses.
Of the two cameras under consideration, the Canon 1300D features an APS-C sensor and the Nikon D3X a full frame sensor. The sensor area in the D3X is 160 percent bigger. As a result of these sensor size differences, the cameras have a format factor of, respectively, 1.6 and 1.0. Both cameras have a native aspect ratio (sensor width to sensor height) of 3:2.
Technology-wise, both cameras are equipped with CMOS (Complementary Metal–Oxide–Semiconductor) sensors.
With 24.4MP, the D3X offers a higher resolution than the 1300D (17.9MP), but the D3X nevertheless has larger individual pixels (pixel pitch of 5.94μm versus 4.31μm for the 1300D) due to its larger sensor. However, the 1300D is a much more recent model (by 7 years and 3 months) than the D3X, and its sensor will have benefitted from technological advances during this time that enhance the light gathering capacity of its pixel-units.
The Canon EOS 1300D has a native sensitivity range from ISO 100 to ISO 12800, which can be extended to ISO 100-25600. The corresponding ISO settings for the Nikon D3X are ISO 100 to ISO 1600, with the possibility to increase the ISO range to 50-6400..

Many modern cameras cannot only take still pictures, but also record videos. The 1300D indeed provides movie recording capabilities, while the D3X does not. The highest resolution format that the 1300D can use is 1080/30p.

One difference between the cameras concerns the presence of an on-board flash. The 1300D has one, while the D3X does not. While the built-in flash of the 1300D is not very powerful, it can at times be useful as a fill-in light.
The 1300D writes its imaging data to SDXC cards, while the D3X uses Compact Flash cards. The D3X features dual card slots, which can be very useful in case a memory card fails. In contrast, the 1300D only has one slot.

It is notable that the 1300D offers wifi support, while the D3X does not. Wifi can be a very convenient means to transfer image data to an off-camera location.
Studio photographers will appreciate that the Nikon D3X (unlike the 1300D) features a PC Sync socket, so that professional strobe lights can be controlled by the camera.
Both the 1300D and the D3X have been discontinued, but can regularly be found used on eBay. The 1300D was replaced by the Canon 2000D, while the D3X does not have a direct successor.
