Panasonic LX15 versus Panasonic FZ2000
The Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX15 (called Panasonic LX10 in some regions) and the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ2000 (labelled Panasonic FZ2500 in some countries) are two digital cameras that were announced in September 2016. Both the LX15 and the FZ2000 are fixed lens compact cameras that are equipped with an one-inch sensor. Both cameras offer a resolution of 20 megapixel. The price is, of course, an important factor in any camera decision. The listed launch prices provide an indication of the market segment that the manufacturer of the cameras have been targeting. The LX15 was launched at a markedly lower price (by 42 percent) than the FZ2000, which puts it into a different market segment. Usually, retail prices stay at first close to the launch price, but after several months, discounts become available. Later in the product cycle and, in particular, when the replacement model is about to appear, further discounting and stock clearance sales often push the camera price considerably down. Then, after the new model is out, very good deals can frequently be found on the pre-owned market.
Sensor comparison: Panasonic LX15 vs Panasonic FZ2000
The size of the imaging sensor is a crucial determinant of image quality. All other things equal, a large sensor will have larger individual pixel-units that offer better low-light sensitivity, wider dynamic range, and richer color depth than smaller pixels in a sensor of the same technological generation. Moreover, a large sensor camera will give the photographer more control over depth-of-field in the image and, thus, the ability to better isolate a subject from the background. Both the LX15 and the FZ2000 have zoom lenses build in. The LX15 has a 24-72mm f/1.4-2.8 optic and the FZ2000 offers a 24-480mm f/2.8-4.5 (focal lengths in full frame equivalent terms). Hence, the LX15 and FZ2000 provide the same view at the wide-angle end, but the FZ2000 has more tele-photo reach at the long end. The LX15 offers the faster maximum aperture.

So what is the bottom line? Is the Panasonic LX15 better than the Panasonic FZ2000 or vice versa? Below is a summary of the relative strengths of each of the two contestants.
Arguments in favor of the Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX15:
- Better light gathering: Has a lens with a wider maximum aperture (f/1.4 vs f/2.8).
- More compact: Is smaller (106x60mm vs 138x102mm) and thus needs less room in the bag.
- Less heavy: Is lighter (by 605g or 66 percent) and hence easier to carry around.
