Overview of Panasonic MFT Cameras

In September 2008, Panasonic launched the Lumix G1, the first Micro Four Thirds camera. Since then the company has released more than 25 MFT camera models that target different photographic needs and markets. In parallel, a comprehensive lens catalog and a sizeable portfolio of accessories was build up. So while Panasonic's earlier engagement in producing DSLRs for the Four Thirds system might be described as timid, with only two camera models produced (the L1 and the L10), Lumix MFT has quickly become a full-blown photographic eco-system with a variety of cameras, lenses, and accessories (see also Panasonic's website for detailed information on current gear).

In particular, Panasonic has developed and maintained five lines of cameras that differ across feature sets and target users:

  • G-line - DSLR style, still imaging centered;
  • GH-line - DSLR style, video centered;
  • GX-line - Rangefinder style, enthusiast-oriented;
  • GF-line - Rangefinder style, no viewfinder;
  • GM-line - Rangefinder style, extremely compact;

The following tables list the different models in each line with some of their key characteristics. In order to see further specifications, just click on the camera name. Alternatively, you can also move across to the CAM-parator app to compare two cameras side-by-side.
