Tamron for Canon EF

Tamron has been a supplier of lenses for Canon and other camera brands for decades. The company invented the interchangeable T-mount and Adaptall mount in the 1960s and 1970s, and has been providing lenses with fixed bayonet mounts since autofocus became widespread. Tamron's offer targets the casual hobbyist, as well as the enthusiast or professional photographer. However, Tamron's lens lineup for the EF-mount is not as broad and comprehensive as Sigma's catalog, for example. Instead, Tamron has traditionally focused on some particular niches, such as superzooms or macro lenses, where it could supply highly competitive optics at very attractive prices.

So what is in the pipeline from Tamron or rumoured in terms of EF-mount lens releases? Tamron does not provide an explicit roadmap of upcoming lenses, but it seems fair to expect that the recent broadening of the lens portfolio with the addition of more high-quality primes and zooms aimed at enthusiasts will continue. Tamron has been additing optical image stabilization ("vibration correction") to all of its lenses, including wide-angles such as the 15-30mm F/2.8, has been applying improved lens coatings, and upgraded its autofocus motors to the fast and quiet Ultrasonic Drive. The timeline below highlights the most recent lens announcements by Tamron. The overview table further down lists the key specs of Tamron autofocus lenses – old and new – for ease of comparison. All these listings cover both EF lenses for full frame EOS cameras and EF-S lenses for APS-C cameras, such as the popular Canon Rebel series.
