The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX100 IV and the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX10 II are two digital cameras that were officially introduced in June 2015. The price is, of course, an important factor in any camera decision. The listed launch prices provide an indication of the market segment that the manufacturer of the cameras have been targeting. The RX100 IV was launched at a somewhat lower price (by 23 percent) than the RX10 II, which makes it more attractive for photographers on a tight budget. Usually, retail prices stay at first close to the launch price, but after several months, discounts become available. Later in the product cycle and, in particular, when the replacement model is about to appear, further discounting and stock clearance sales often push the camera price considerably down. Both the RX100 IV and the RX10 II have zoom lenses build in. The RX100 IV has a 24-70mm f/1.8-2.8 optic and the RX10 II offers a 24-200mm f/2.8-2.8 (focal lengths in full frame equivalent terms). Hence, the RX100 IV and RX10 II provide the same view at the wide-angle end, but the RX10 II has more tele-photo reach at the long end. The RX100 IV offers the faster maximum aperture.
Both the RX100 IV and the RX10 II have been discontinued, but can regularly be found used on eBay. The RX100 IV was replaced by the Sony RX100 IV, while the RX10 II was followed by the Sony RX10 III.
