Nikon D6 vs D7500
The Nikon D6 and the Nikon D7500 are two digital cameras that were revealed to the public, respectively, in February 2020 and April 2017. Both are DSLR (Digital Single Lens Reflex) cameras that are based on a full frame (D6) and an APS-C (D7500) sensor. Both cameras offer a resolution of 20.7 megapixels.

If the front view area (width x height) of the cameras is taken as an aggregate measure of their size, the Nikon D7500 is considerably smaller (46 percent) than the Nikon D6. Moreover, the D7500 is substantially lighter (43 percent) than the D6. In this context, it is worth noting that both cameras are splash and dust-proof and can, hence, be used in inclement weather conditions or harsh environments.
The above size and weight comparisons are to some extent incomplete since they do not consider the interchangeable lenses that both of these cameras require. A larger imaging sensor (as in the D6) will tend to go along with bigger and heavier lenses, while more compact options are available for the smaller-sensor camera (D7500). Concerning battery life, the D6 gets 3580 shots out of its EN-EL18c battery, while the D7500 can take 950 images on a single charge of its EN-EL15a power pack. As can be seen in the images above, the D6 has a battery grip built in. This facilitates image-taking in portrait orientation and gives it additional battery power. The price is, of course, an important factor in any camera decision. The listed launch prices provide an indication of the market segment that the manufacturer of the cameras have been targeting. The D7500 was launched at a markedly lower price (by 80 percent) than the D6, which puts it into a different market segment. Normally, street prices remain initially close to the MSRP, but after a couple of months, the first discounts appear. Later in the product cycle and, in particular, when the replacement model is about to appear, further discounting and stock clearance sales often push the camera price considerably down.
The size of the imaging sensor is a crucial determinant of image quality. A large sensor will generally have larger individual pixels that offer better low-light sensitivity, provide wider dynamic range, and have richer color-depth than smaller pixels in a sensor of the same technological generation. Moreover, a large sensor camera will give the photographer more control over depth-of-field in the image and, thus, the ability to better isolate a subject from the background. On the downside, larger sensors are more costly to manufacture and tend to lead to bigger and heavier cameras and lenses.
Of the two cameras under consideration, the Nikon D6 features a full frame sensor and the Nikon D7500 an APS-C sensor. The sensor area in the D7500 is 57 percent smaller. As a result of these sensor size differences, the cameras have a format factor of, respectively, 1.0 and 1.5. Both cameras have a native aspect ratio (sensor width to sensor height) of 3:2.
In terms of chip-set technology, the D6 uses a more advanced image processing engine (EXPEED 6) than the D7500 (EXPEED 5), with benefits for noise reduction, color accuracy, and processing speed.
Even though the D6 has a larger sensor, both cameras offer the same resolution of 20.7 megapixels. This implies that the D6 has a lower pixel density and larger individual pixels (with a pixel pitch of 6.44μm versus 4.22μm for the D7500), which gives it a potential advantage in terms of light gathering capacity. In addition, the D6 is much more recent (by 2 years and 10 months) than the D7500, and its sensor will have benefitted from technological advances during this time. Coming back to sensor resolution, it should be mentioned that the D7500 has no anti-alias filter installed, so that it can capture all the detail its sensor resolves.
The Nikon D6 has a native sensitivity range from ISO 100 to ISO 102400, which can be extended to ISO 50-3280000. The corresponding ISO settings for the Nikon D7500 are ISO 100 to ISO 51200, with the possibility to increase the ISO range to 50-1640000.

Many modern cameras are not only capable of taking still images, but also of capturing video footage. Both cameras under consideration are equipped with sensors that have a sufficiently high read-out speed for moving images, and both provide the same movie specifications (4K/30p).
Apart from body and sensor, cameras can and do differ across a range of features. The D6 and the D7500 are similar in the sense that both have an optical viewfinder. The latter is useful for getting a clear image for framing even in brightly lit environments. One difference between the cameras concerns the presence of an on-board flash. The D7500 has one, while the D6 does not. While the built-in flash of the D7500 is not very powerful, it can at times be useful as a fill-in light.
