Fujifilm XQ1 vs Nikon D2X
The Fujifilm XQ1 and the Nikon D2X are two digital cameras that were officially introduced, respectively, in October 2013 and September 2004. The XQ1 is a fixed lens compact, while the D2X is a DSLR. The cameras are based on a 2/3 (XQ1) and an APS-C (D2X) sensor. The Fujifilm has a resolution of 12 megapixels, whereas the Nikon provides 12.2 MP.

Concerning battery life, the XQ1 gets 240 shots out of its Fujifilm NP-48 battery, while the D2X can take 3800 images on a single charge of its Nikon EN-EL4a power pack. The price is, of course, an important factor in any camera decision. The manufacturer’s suggested retail prices give an idea on the placement of the camera in the maker’s lineup and the broader market. The XQ1 was launched at a lower price than the D2X, despite having a lens built in. Usually, retail prices stay at first close to the launch price, but after several months, discounts become available. Later in the product cycle and, in particular, when the replacement model is about to appear, further discounting and stock clearance sales often push the camera price considerably down.
Sensor comparison
The imaging sensor is at the core of digital cameras and its size is one of the main determining factors of image quality. All other things equal, a large sensor will have larger individual pixel-units that offer better low-light sensitivity, wider dynamic range, and richer color-depth than smaller pixels in a sensor of the same technological generation. Further, a large sensor camera will give the photographer additional creative options when using shallow depth-of-field to isolate a subject from its background. On the downside, larger sensors tend to be more expensive and lead to bigger and heavier cameras and lenses.
Of the two cameras under consideration, the Fujifilm XQ1 features a 2/3 sensor and the Nikon D2X an APS-C sensor. The sensor area in the D2X is 541 percent bigger. As a result of these sensor size differences, the cameras have a format factor of, respectively, 3.9 and 1.5. The sensor in the XQ1 has a native 4:3 aspect ratio, while the one in the D2X offers a 3:2 aspect.
With 12.2MP, the D2X offers a higher resolution than the XQ1 (12MP), but the D2X nevertheless has larger individual pixels (pixel pitch of 5.52μm versus 2.20μm for the XQ1) due to its larger sensor. However, the XQ1 is a much more recent model (by 9 years and 1 month) than the D2X, and its sensor will have benefitted from technological advances during this time that enhance the light gathering capacity of its pixel-units. Coming back to sensor resolution, it should be mentioned that the XQ1 has no anti-alias filter installed, so that it can capture all the detail its sensor resolves.
The XQ1 has on-sensor phase detect pixels, which results in fast and reliable autofocus acquisition even during live view operation.
The Fujifilm XQ1 has a native sensitivity range from ISO 100 to ISO 12800. The corresponding ISO settings for the Nikon D2X are ISO 100 to ISO 800, with the possibility to increase the ISO range to 100-3200.
Technology-wise, both cameras are equipped with CMOS (Complementary Metal–Oxide–Semiconductor) sensors. The XQ1 uses Fujifilm's X-Trans layout of photosites, while the D2X employs the more common Bayer array.

Many modern cameras cannot only take still pictures, but also record videos. The XQ1 indeed provides movie recording capabilities, while the D2X does not. The highest resolution format that the XQ1 can use is 1080/60p.
Feature comparison

One difference between the cameras concerns the presence of an on-board flash. The XQ1 has one, while the D2X does not. While the built-in flash of the XQ1 is not very powerful, it can at times be useful as a fill-in light.
The XQ1 writes its imaging data to SDXC cards, while the D2X uses Compact Flash cards.

It is notable that the XQ1 offers wifi support, while the D2X does not. Wifi can be a very convenient means to transfer image data to an off-camera location.
Studio photographers will appreciate that the Nikon D2X (unlike the XQ1) features a PC Sync socket, so that professional strobe lights can be controlled by the camera.
Both the XQ1 and the D2X have been discontinued, but can regularly be found used on ebay. The D2X was replaced by the Nikon D2Xs, while the XQ1 was followed by the Fujifilm XQ2.
