Fujifilm X-T4 vs Panasonic L1
The Fujifilm X-T4 and the Panasonic Lumix DMC-L1 are two digital cameras that were officially introduced, respectively, in February 2020 and February 2006. The X-T4 is a mirrorless interchangeable lens camera, while the L1 is a DSLR. The cameras are based on an APS-C (X-T4) and a Four Thirds (L1) sensor. If the front view area (width x height) of the cameras is taken as an aggregate measure of their size, the Panasonic L1 is somewhat larger (1 percent) than the Fujifilm X-T4. However, the L1 is slightly lighter (0 percent) than the X-T4. The price is, of course, an important factor in any camera decision. The listed launch prices provide an indication of the market segment that the manufacturer of the cameras have been targeting. The L1 was launched at a markedly lower price (by 41 percent) than the X-T4, which puts it into a different market segment. Usually, retail prices stay at first close to the launch price, but after several months, discounts become available. Later in the product cycle and, in particular, when the replacement model is about to appear, further discounting and stock clearance sales often push the camera price considerably down.
Sensor comparison
The size of the imaging sensor is a crucial determinant of image quality. A large sensor will tend to have larger individual pixels that provide better low-light sensitivity, wider dynamic range, and richer color-depth than smaller pixel-units in a sensor of the same technological generation. Further, a large sensor camera will give the photographer additional creative options when using shallow depth-of-field to isolate a subject from its background. On the downside, larger sensors are more costly to manufacture and tend to lead to bigger and heavier cameras and lenses.
Of the two cameras under consideration, the Fujifilm X-T4 features an APS-C sensor and the Panasonic L1 a Four Thirds sensor. The sensor area in the L1 is 39 percent smaller. As a result of these sensor size differences, the cameras have a format factor of, respectively, 1.5 and 2.0. The sensor in the X-T4 has a native 3:2 aspect ratio, while the one in the L1 offers a 4:3 aspect.
With 26MP, the X-T4 offers a higher resolution than the L1 (7.4MP), but the X-T4 has smaller individual pixels (pixel pitch of 3.76μm versus 5.51μm for the L1). However, the X-T4 is a much more recent model (by 14 years) than the L1, and its sensor will have benefitted from technological advances during this time that enhance the light gathering capacity of its pixels. Coming back to sensor resolution, it should be mentioned that the X-T4 has no anti-alias filter installed, so that it can capture all the detail its sensor resolves.
The resolution advantage of the Fujifilm X-T4 implies greater flexibility for cropping images or the possibility to print larger pictures. The maximum print size of the X-T4 for good quality output (200 dots per inch) amounts to 31.2 x 20.8 inches or 79.2 x 52.8 cm, for very good quality (250 dpi) 25 x 16.6 inches or 63.4 x 42.3 cm, and for excellent quality (300 dpi) 20.8 x 13.9 inches or 52.8 x 35.2 cm. The corresponding values for the Panasonic L1 are 15.7 x 11.8 inches or 39.8 x 29.9 cm for good quality, 12.5 x 9.4 inches or 31.9 x 23.9 cm for very good quality, and 10.5 x 7.8 inches or 26.6 x 19.9 cm for excellent quality prints.
The X-T4 has on-sensor phase detect pixels, which results in fast and reliable autofocus acquisition even during live view operation.
The Fujifilm X-T4 has a native sensitivity range from ISO 160 to ISO 12800, which can be extended to ISO 80-51200. The corresponding ISO settings for the Panasonic Lumix DMC-L1 are ISO 100 to ISO 1600 (no boost).
In terms of underlying technology, the X-T4 is build around a BSI-CMOS sensor, while the L1 uses a CMOS imager. The X-T4 uses Fujifilm's X-Trans layout of photosites, while the L1 employs the more common Bayer array.

Many modern cameras cannot only take still pictures, but also record videos. The X-T4 indeed provides movie recording capabilities, while the L1 does not. The highest resolution format that the X-T4 can use is 4K/60p.
Feature comparison
Apart from body and sensor, cameras can and do differ across a variety of features. For example, the X-T4 has an electronic viewfinder (3690k dots), while the L1 has an optical one. Both systems have their advantages, with the electronic viewfinder making it possible to project supplementary shooting information into the framing view, whereas the optical viewfinder offers lag-free viewing and a very clear framing image. The viewfinder in the X-T4 offers a wider field of view (100%) than the one in the L1 (95%), so that a larger proportion of the captured image is visible in the finder. One feature that differentiates the X-T4 and the L1 is in-body image stabilization (IBIS). The X-T4 reduces the risk of handshake-induced blur with all attached lenses, while the L1 offers no blur reduction with lenses that themselves do not provide optical image stabilization.
The X-T4 has an articulated LCD that can be turned to be front-facing. This characteristic will be appreciated by vloggers and photographers who are interested in snapping selfies. In contrast, the L1 does not have a selfie-screen.The reported shutter speed information refers to the use of the mechanical shutter. Yet, some cameras only have an electronic shutter, while others have an electronic shutter in addition to a mechanical one. In fact, the X-T4 is one of those camera that have an additional electronic shutter, which makes completely silent shooting possible. However, this mode is less suitable for photographing moving objects (risk of rolling shutter) or shooting under artificial light sources (risk of flickering).
The Fujifilm X-T4 has an intervalometer built-in. This enables the photographer to capture time lapse sequences, such as flower blooming, a sunset or moon rise, without purchasing an external camera trigger and related software.
The X-T4 writes its imaging data to SDXC cards, while the L1 uses SDHC cards. The X-T4 features dual card slots, which can be very useful in case a memory card fails. In contrast, the L1 only has one slot. The X-T4 supports UHS-II cards (on both slots), while the L1 cannot take advantage of Ultra High Speed SD cards.

It is notable that the X-T4 offers wifi support, while the L1 does not. Wifi can be a very convenient means to transfer image data to an off-camera location.
