Any camera decision will obviously take relative prices into account. The listed launch prices provide an indication of the market segment that the manufacturer of the cameras have been targeting. The SX720 was launched at a lower price than the Leica SL2, despite having a lens built in. Unlike the SX720, the Leica SL2 has the capacity to capture high quality composite images (187MP) by combining multiple shots after shifting its sensor by miniscule distances. This multi-shot, pixel-shift mode is most suitable for photography of stationary objects (landscapes, studio scenes).

Many modern cameras cannot only take still pictures, but also record videos. One difference between the cameras concerns the presence of an on-board flash. The SX720 has one, while the Leica SL2 does not. While the built-in flash of the SX720 is not very powerful, it can at times be useful as a fill-in light.
