Any camera decision will obviously take relative prices into account. The listed launch prices provide an indication of the market segment that the manufacturer of the cameras have been targeting. The SX30 was launched at a markedly lower price (by 49 percent) than the V-LUX 2, which puts it into a different market segment. The two cameras under review do not only share the same sensor size, but also offer an identical resolution of 14 megapixels. Moreover, the two cameras were released in close succession, so that their sensors are from the same technological generation. Many modern cameras are not only capable of taking still images, but can also record movies. Both the SX30 and the V-LUX 2 have zoom lenses built in. The SX30 has a 24-840mm f/2.7-5.8 optic and the V-LUX 2 offers a 25-600mm f/2.8-5.2 (focal lengths in full frame equivalent terms).
