Canon R6 vs Panasonic FZ2500
The Canon EOS R6 and the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ2500 (labelled Panasonic FZ2000 in some countries) are two digital cameras that were announced, respectively, in July 2020 and September 2016. The Canon R6 is a mirrorless interchangeable lens camera, while the FZ2500 is a fixed lens compact. The cameras are based on a full frame (Canon R6) and an one-inch (FZ2500) sensor. Both cameras offer a resolution of 20 megapixels.

If the front view area (width x height) of the cameras is taken as an aggregate measure of their size, the Panasonic FZ2500 is somewhat larger (4 percent) than the Canon R6. The price is, of course, an important factor in any camera decision. The listed launch prices provide an indication of the market segment that the manufacturer of the cameras have been targeting. The FZ2500 was launched at a lower price than the Canon R6, despite having a lens built in. Usually, retail prices stay at first close to the launch price, but after several months, discounts become available. Later in the product cycle and, in particular, when the replacement model is about to appear, further discounting and stock clearance sales often push the camera price considerably down.
The imaging sensor is at the core of digital cameras and its size is one of the main determining factors of image quality. A large sensor will tend to have larger individual pixels that provide better low-light sensitivity, wider dynamic range, and richer color-depth than smaller pixel-units in a sensor of the same technological generation. Of the two cameras under consideration, the Canon R6 features a full frame sensor and the Panasonic FZ2500 an one-inch sensor. The sensor area in the FZ2500 is 87 percent smaller. As a result of these sensor size differences, the cameras have a format factor of, respectively, 1.0 and 2.7. Both cameras have a native aspect ratio (sensor width to sensor height) of 3:2.
Even though the Canon R6 has a larger sensor, both cameras offer the same resolution of 20 megapixels. This implies that the Canon R6 has a lower pixel density and larger individual pixels (with a pixel pitch of 6.57μm versus 2.41μm for the FZ2500), which gives it a potential advantage in terms of light gathering capacity. In addition, the Canon R6 is much more recent (by 3 years and 9 months) than the FZ2500, and its sensor will have benefitted from technological advances during this time.
The Canon R6 has on-sensor phase detect pixels, which results in fast and reliable autofocus acquisition even during live view operation.
The Canon EOS R6 has a native sensitivity range from ISO 100 to ISO 102400, which can be extended to ISO 50-204800. The corresponding ISO settings for the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ2500 are ISO 125 to ISO 12800, with the possibility to increase the ISO range to 80-25600.

Many modern cameras cannot only take still pictures, but also record videos. Both cameras under consideration have a sensor with sufficiently fast read-out times for moving pictures, but the Canon R6 provides a higher frame rate than the FZ2500. It can shoot video footage at 4k/60p, while the Panasonic is limited to 4K/30p.

One difference between the cameras concerns the presence of an on-board flash. The FZ2500 has one, while the Canon R6 does not. While the built-in flash of the FZ2500 is not very powerful, it can at times be useful as a fill-in light.Both cameras have an articulated rear screen that can be turned to be front-facing. The reported shutter speed information refers to the use of the mechanical shutter. Both the Canon R6 and the FZ2500 are recent models that are part of the current product line-up.
