Any camera decision will obviously take relative prices into account. The listed launch prices provide an indication of the market segment that the manufacturer of the cameras have been targeting. The M6 Mark II was launched at a markedly lower price (by 58 percent) than the X-H2, which puts it into a different market segment. With 39.8MP, the X-H2 offers a higher resolution than the M6 Mark II (32.3MP), but the X-H2 has smaller individual pixels (pixel pitch of 3.04μm versus 3.23μm for the M6 Mark II). Yet, the X-H2 is a much more recent model (by 3 years) than the M6 Mark II, and its sensor will have benefitted from technological advances during this time that enhance the light gathering capacity of its pixel-units. The maximum print size of the X-H2 for good quality output (200 dots per inch) amounts to 38.6 x 25.8 inches or 98.1 x 65.4 cm, for very good quality (250 dpi) 30.9 x 20.6 inches or 78.5 x 52.3 cm, and for excellent quality (300 dpi) 25.8 x 17.2 inches or 65.4 x 43.6 cm. The corresponding values for the Canon M6 Mark II are 34.8 x 23.2 inches or 88.4 x 58.9 cm for good quality, 27.8 x 18.6 inches or 70.7 x 47.1 cm for very good quality, and 23.2 x 15.5 inches or 58.9 x 39.3 cm for excellent quality prints.

Unlike the M6 Mark II, the X-H2 has the capacity to capture high quality composite images (160MP) by combining multiple shots after shifting its sensor by miniscule distances. This multi-shot, pixel-shift mode is most suitable for photography of stationary objects (landscapes, studio scenes).

The Canon EOS M6 Mark II has a native sensitivity range from ISO 100 to ISO 25600, which can be extended to ISO 100-51200. The corresponding ISO settings for the Fujifilm X-H2 are ISO 160 to ISO 12800, with the possibility to increase the ISO range to 80-51200.

In terms of underlying technology, the M6 Mark II is build around a CMOS sensor, while the X-H2 uses a BSI-CMOS imager. Like most digital cameras, the M6 Mark II uses a Bayer filter for capturing RGB colors on a square grid of photosensors. Many modern cameras are not only capable of taking still images, but can also record movies. One difference between the cameras concerns the presence of an on-board flash. The M6 Mark II has one, while the X-H2 does not. While the built-in flash of the M6 Mark II is not very powerful, it can at times be useful as a fill-in light.

It is notable that the X-H2 has a headphone jack, which makes it possible to attach external headphones and monitor the quality of sound during the recording process. The M6 Mark II lacks such a headphone port.
