Canon M10 vs M200
The Canon EOS M10 and the Canon EOS M200 are two digital cameras that were revealed to the public, respectively, in October 2015 and September 2019. Both the M10 and the M200 are mirrorless interchangeable lens cameras that are equipped with an APS-C sensor. The M10 has a resolution of 17.9 megapixels, whereas the M200 provides 24 MP.

In this particular case, the Canon M10 and the Canon M200 have exactly the same width and height, and, thus, have identically-sized bodies. However, the M200 is slightly lighter (1 percent) than the M10. In this context, it is worth noting that neither the M10 nor the M200 are weather-sealed.

The price is, of course, an important factor in any camera decision. The manufacturer’s suggested retail prices give an idea on the placement of the camera in the maker’s lineup and the broader market. The M10 was somewhat cheaper (by 9 percent) than the M200 at launch, but both cameras fall into the same price category. Normally, street prices remain initially close to the MSRP, but after a couple of months, the first discounts appear. Later in the product cycle and, in particular, when the replacement model is about to appear, further discounting and stock clearance sales often push the camera price considerably down.
The size of the imaging sensor is a crucial determinant of image quality. A large sensor will tend to have larger individual pixels that provide better low-light sensitivity, wider dynamic range, and richer color-depth than smaller pixel-units in a sensor of the same technological generation. Further, a large sensor camera will give the photographer additional creative options when using shallow depth-of-field to isolate a subject from its background. On the downside, larger sensors tend to be more expensive and lead to bigger and heavier cameras and lenses.
Both cameras under consideration feature an APS-C sensor and have a format factor (sometimes also referred to as "crop factor") of 1.6. Within the spectrum of camera sensors, this places the review cameras among the medium-sized sensor cameras that aim to strike a balance between image quality and portability. Both cameras have a native aspect ratio (sensor width to sensor height) of 3:2.
Technology-wise, the M200 uses a more advanced image processing engine (DIGIC 8) than the M10 (DIGIC 6), with benefits for noise reduction, color accuracy, and processing speed.
While the two cameras under review share the same sensor size, the M200 offers a higher resolution of 24 megapixels, compared with 17.9 MP of the M10. This megapixels advantage translates into a 16 percent gain in linear resolution. On the other hand, these sensor specs imply that the M200 has a higher pixel density and a smaller size of the individual pixel (with a pixel pitch of 3.72μm versus 4.31μm for the M10). However, it should be noted that the M200 is much more recent (by 3 years and 11 months) than the M10, and its sensor will have benefitted from technological advances during this time that compensate for the smaller pixel size.
The resolution advantage of the Canon M200 implies greater flexibility for cropping images or the possibility to print larger pictures. The maximum print size of the M200 for good quality output (200 dots per inch) amounts to 30 x 20 inches or 76.2 x 50.8 cm, for very good quality (250 dpi) 24 x 16 inches or 61 x 40.6 cm, and for excellent quality (300 dpi) 20 x 13.3 inches or 50.8 x 33.9 cm. The corresponding values for the Canon M10 are 25.9 x 17.3 inches or 65.8 x 43.9 cm for good quality, 20.7 x 13.8 inches or 52.7 x 35.1 cm for very good quality, and 17.3 x 11.5 inches or 43.9 x 29.3 cm for excellent quality prints.
The Canon EOS M10 has a native sensitivity range from ISO 100 to ISO 12800, which can be extended to ISO 100-25600. The corresponding ISO settings for the Canon EOS M200 are ISO 100 to ISO 25600 (no boost).

Many modern cameras cannot only take still pictures, but also record videos. Both cameras under consideration are equipped with sensors that have a sufficiently high read-out speed for moving images, but the M200 provides a better video resolution than the M10. It can shoot movie footage at 4k/25p, while the M10 is limited to 1080/30p.

The M200 is a recent model that features in the current product line-up of Canon. In contrast, the M10 has been discontinued (but can be found pre-owned on eBay).
