The Canon PowerShot G7 X Mark III and the Panasonic Lumix DC-S1H are two digital cameras that were announced, respectively, in July 2019 and May 2019. Any camera decision will obviously take relative prices into account. The retail prices at the time of the camera’s release place the model in the market relative to other models in the producer’s line-up and the competition. The G7X Mark III was launched at a lower price than the S1H, despite having a lens built in. As a result of these sensor size differences, the cameras have a format factor of, respectively, 2.7 and 1.0. Both cameras have a native aspect ratio (sensor width to sensor height) of 3:2.
With 24MP, the S1H offers a higher resolution than the G7X Mark III (20MP), but the S1H nevertheless has larger individual pixels (pixel pitch of 5.94μm versus 2.41μm for the G7X Mark III) due to its larger sensor. Unlike the G7X Mark III, the S1H has the capacity to capture high quality composite images (96MP) by combining multiple shots after shifting its sensor by miniscule distances. This multi-shot, pixel-shift mode is most suitable for photography of stationary objects (landscapes, studio scenes).
The Canon PowerShot G7 X Mark III has a native sensitivity range from ISO 125 to ISO 12800, which can be extended to ISO 125-25600. The corresponding ISO settings for the Panasonic Lumix DC-S1H are ISO 100 to ISO 51200, with the possibility to increase the ISO range to 50-204800.

Many modern cameras cannot only take still pictures, but also record videos. The two cameras under consideration both have sensors whose read-out speed is fast enough to capture moving pictures, but the S1H provides a better video resolution than the G7X Mark III. It can shoot movie footage at 6K/30p, while the Canon is limited to 4K/30p.

One difference between the cameras concerns the presence of an on-board flash. The G7X Mark III has one, while the S1H does not. While the built-in flash of the G7X Mark III is not very powerful, it can at times be useful as a fill-in light.

It is notable that the S1H has a hotshoe, which makes it possible to easily attach optional accessories, such as an external flash gun. The G7X Mark III does not feature such an accessory-socket.
