The price is, of course, an important factor in any camera decision. The listed launch prices provide an indication of the market segment that the manufacturer of the cameras have been targeting. The SX410 was launched at a markedly lower price (by 69 percent) than the G5X Mark II, which puts it into a different market segment. Normally, street prices remain initially close to the MSRP, but after a couple of months, the first discounts appear. Later in the product cycle and, in particular, when the replacement model is about to appear, further discounting and stock clearance sales often push the camera price considerably down.

Of the two cameras under consideration, the Canon G5 X Mark II features an one-inch sensor and the Canon SX410 a 1/2.3-inch sensor. The sensor area in the SX410 is 76 percent smaller. As a result of these sensor size differences, the cameras have a format factor of, respectively, 2.7 and 5.6. The sensor in the G5X Mark II has a native 3:2 aspect ratio, while the one in the SX410 offers a 4:3 aspect.
In terms of chip-set technology, the G5X Mark II uses a more advanced image processing engine (DIGIC 8) than the SX410 (DIGIC 4+), with benefits for noise reduction, color accuracy, and processing speed.
With 20MP, the G5X Mark II offers a slightly higher resolution than the SX410 (19.9MP), but the G5X Mark II nevertheless has larger individual pixels (pixel pitch of 2.41μm versus 1.19μm for the SX410) due to its larger sensor. Moreover, the G5X Mark II is a much more recent model (by 4 years and 5 months) than the SX410, and its sensor will have benefitted from technological advances during this time that further enhance the light gathering capacity of its pixels. Coming back to sensor resolution, it should be mentioned that the SX410 has no anti-alias filter installed, so that it can capture all the detail its sensor resolves.
The Canon PowerShot G5 X Mark II has a native sensitivity range from ISO 125 to ISO 12800, which can be extended to ISO 125-25600. The corresponding ISO settings for the Canon PowerShot SX410 IS are ISO 100 to ISO 1600 (no boost).

Many modern cameras are not only capable of taking still images, but also of capturing video footage. One differentiating feature between the two cameras concerns the touch sensitivity of the rear screen. The G5X Mark II has a touchscreen, while the SX410 has a conventional panel. It is notable that the G5X Mark II offers wifi support, while the SX410 does not. Wifi can be a very convenient means to transfer image data to an off-camera location.
The G5X Mark II is a recent model that features in the current product line-up of Canon. In contrast, the SX410 has been discontinued (but can be found pre-owned on eBay).
