If the front view area (width x height) of the cameras is taken as an aggregate measure of their size, the Fujifilm X-T3 is notably smaller (19 percent) than the Canon 30D. Moreover, the X-T3 is markedly lighter (31 percent) than the 30D. It is noteworthy in this context that the X-T3 is splash and dust-proof, while the 30D does not feature any corresponding weather-sealing.

Concerning battery life, the 30D gets 750 shots out of its BP-511A battery, while the X-T3 can take 390 images on a single charge of its NP-W126S power pack. The power pack in the X-T3 can be charged via the USB port, which can be very convenient when travelling.

Any camera decision will obviously take relative prices into account. The manufacturer’s suggested retail prices give an idea on the placement of the camera in the maker’s lineup and the broader market. The 30D was somewhat cheaper (by 7 percent) than the X-T3 at launch, but both cameras fall into the same price category. Usually, retail prices stay at first close to the launch price, but after several months, discounts become available. Later in the product cycle and, in particular, when the replacement model is about to appear, further discounting and stock clearance sales often push the camera price considerably down. Then, after the new model is out, very good deals can frequently be found on the pre-owned market.
Sensor comparison: Canon 30D vs Fujifilm X-T3
The imaging sensor is at the core of digital cameras and its size is one of the main determining factors of image quality. All other things equal, a large sensor will have larger individual pixel-units that offer better low-light sensitivity, wider dynamic range, and richer color-depth than smaller pixels in a sensor of the same technological generation. Furthermore, a large sensor camera will give the photographer more possibilities to use shallow depth-of-field in order to isolate a subject from the background. On the downside, larger sensors tend to be associated with larger, more expensive camera bodies and lenses.
Both cameras under consideration feature an APS-C sensor, but their sensors differ slightly in size. The sensor area in the X-T3 is 9 percent bigger. As a result of these sensor size differences, the cameras have format factors, respectively, of 1.6 (30D) and 1.5. Both cameras have a native aspect ratio (sensor width to sensor height) of 3:2.
With 26MP, the X-T3 offers a higher resolution than the 30D (8.2MP), but the X-T3 has smaller individual pixels (pixel pitch of 3.76μm versus 6.42μm for the 30D). Yet, the X-T3 is a much more recent model (by 12 years and 6 months) than the 30D, and its sensor will have benefitted from technological advances during this time that enhance the light gathering capacity of its pixel-units. Coming back to sensor resolution, it should be mentioned that the X-T3 has no anti-alias filter installed, so that it can capture all the detail its sensor resolves.
The X-T3 has on-sensor phase detect pixels, which results in fast and reliable autofocus acquisition even during video recording.
The Canon EOS 30D has a native sensitivity range from ISO 100 to ISO 1600, which can be extended to ISO 100-3200. The corresponding ISO settings for the Fujifilm X-T3 are ISO 160 to ISO 12800, with the possibility to increase the ISO range to 80-51200..

Many modern cameras cannot only take still pictures, but also record videos. The X-T3 indeed provides for movie recording, while the 30D does not. The highest resolution format that the X-T3 can use is 4K/60p.

One difference between the cameras concerns the presence of an on-board flash. The 30D has one, while the X-T3 does not. While the built-in flash of the 30D is not very powerful, it can at times be useful as a fill-in light.
The reported shutter speed and shutter burst refer to the use of the mechanical shutter. In addition, the X-T3 features an electronic shutter, which makes completely silent shooting possible. However, this mode is less suitable for photographing moving objects (risk of rolling shutter) or shooting under artificial light sources (risk of flickering).
The 30D writes its imaging data to Compact Flash cards, while the X-T3 uses SDXC cards. The X-T3 features dual card slots, which can be very useful in case a memory card fails. In contrast, the 30D only has one slot.

It is notable that the X-T3 offers wifi support, which can be a very convenient means to transfer image data to an off-camera location. In contrast, the 30D does not offer wifi capability.
Both cameras feature a PC Sync terminal to control professional strobe lights, which will be appreciated by studio photographers.
The X-T3 is a recent model that features in the current product line-up of Fujifilm. In contrast, the 30D has been discontinued (but it can be found pre-owned on eBay). As a replacement in the same line of cameras, the 30D was succeeded by the Canon 40D.
